Super Lawyers Recognizes the Work of Outstanding Attorneys

An accomplished attorney with Jaspan Schlesinger, LLP, in Garden City, New York, Steven Schlesinger leads the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and Appellate Practice Group. Over the course of his career, Steven Schlesinger has received a number of accolades for his work. He was named to the Top New York Super Lawyers list for eight consecutive years.

Operated by Thomson Reuters, Super Lawyers is a rating program that recognizes the work of outstanding attorneys in over 70 practice areas. Each year, candidates for the Super Lawyer distinction are nominated by attorney peers and the candidate pool is finalized after research by the Super Lawyers staff. To maintain the integrity of the nomination process, Super Lawyers prohibits attorneys from campaigning for the award and tracks where nominations come from.

After the candidate pool is established, each nominee is evaluated in terms of peer recognition and professional achievement. Super Lawyers considers the nominees’ verdict history, experience, scholarly work, pro bono activities, honors and awards, and other outstanding achievements when making its selections for the annual awards. The final steps in the selection process include peer evaluations and a vetting procedure that ensures each prospective award winner is in good standing and has never faced disciplinary or criminal proceedings.

When the annual Super Lawyers list is finalized, it is published in state and regional issues of Super Lawyers magazine as well as other magazines and newspapers. No more than 5 percent of all lawyers in each state receive the annual award. To find a listing of previous Super Lawyers, visit www.superlawyers.com.

The Work of Super Lawyers and the Top 100 List

Steven Schlesinger is an attorney who studied at Hofstra University School of Law in New York to earn his juris doctor before starting his career with Jaspan Schlesinger, LLP. Steven Schlesinger graduated in the top 10 percent of his class and was named a “Top 100 New York Super Lawyer” in 2014, 2015, and 2016 in the business litigation category serving the New York metro area, which includes parts of New Jersey.

Super Lawyers is an organization that rates the performance of attorneys from over 70 practice areas, creating lists of the top-performing legal professionals. The lists, including the “Top 100s,” are decided based on a 12-indicator system that focuses on the core categories of peer recognition and professional achievement.

The group carries out independent research on each attorney it ranks, with the goal of creating a credible and objective list of the best attorneys in each practice area in each state. The lists are limited to attorneys who can be hired and retained by the general public, and achieving a ranking on a “Top 100” list is considered an honor and recognition of the attorney’s talents.
